Shark Tank Kawaii Lighting Pitch
- Entrepreneurs: Chloe Mae Loop and Lan Bui
- Business: Heart, cat, and star-shaped ring lights for influencers and content creators
- Ask: $88,000 for 22% equity
- Result: $100,000 for 22% equity, plus $5/unit royalty until funds are recouped
- Shark: Barbara Corcoran
Kawaii Lighting started in China when Chloe Mae and Lan Bui scoped out potential markets to bring new products back to the United States. In 2020, their cute ring lights were born, and since then, the business has taken off.
The products are perfect for providing flattering lighting during Zoom calls and making social media influencer videos. Plus, they come in cute shapes like hearts and stars, and the shapes reflect in the user’s eyes on video.
They sell direct-to-consumer and have $261,000 in lifetime sales. They’d only been in business a year at the time of filming.
The sharks are impressed with the pair’s enthusiastic pitch and think the sales numbers aren’t too bad.
However, Mark Cuban is the first to out first. The market is too competitive for him.
Barbara loves the business and offers them more than they asked for. She proposes $100,000 for 22% equity plus a $10 royalty per light until her investment is recouped. However, Lan thinks the royalty is too much.
Jumping in next, Kevin O’Leary offers $88,000 for 22%, with a $5 per light royalty until he gets his money back.
Emma Grede, the guest shark, drops out because it isn’t right for her.
Lori Greiner follows, echoing Mark’s previous concerns about the competition.
In light of Kevin’s offer, Barbara lowers her royalty amount to $5 per unit. Because of this, Chloe and Lan accept her offer and leave the tank with a deal.
Was this a good move for Barbara? Let’s see how the company is doing now in our Kawaii Lighting update.
